About Gun Barrel City
The town grew up on the eastern shore after Cedar Creek Lake was completed in the 1960s and was incorporated on May 26, 1969. It takes its name from Gun Barrel Lane, now State Highway 198, said to run "straight as a gun barrel", and its motto is "We Shoot Straight with You." State Highways 334 and 198 cross in town. Highway 334 leads west across the lake to Seven Points, and Highway 198 runs north to Mabank and south to Malakoff. Gun Barrel City was named a Certified Retirement Community by the Texas Department of Agriculture in 2008. The summer boating season brings a steady stream of visitors.
