Kemp, Texas
Kemp is a historic railroad town at the north end of Cedar Creek Lake in Kaufman County. It's one of 13 communities served by the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
About Kemp
Kemp dates to 1851, when its post office opened. The town was named for Sara Kemp, mother of first postmaster Levi Noble. The railroad arrived in the mid-1880s and turned Kemp into a trade center for the surrounding cattle ranches and cotton farms. By 1926 the town had 60 businesses and two banks. Today Kemp sits along U.S. Route 175, 11 miles from Kaufman, the county seat. With Cedar Creek Lake just to the south, it's an easy commute to the Dallas area.
