Malakoff, Texas
Malakoff is a historic Henderson County city just south of Cedar Creek Lake on State Highway 31. The Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce serves Malakoff businesses through its Malakoff/Eustace/Trinidad chapter.
About Malakoff
First known as Caney Creek and Mitcham Chapel, the town took the name Malakoff in the 1850s. The name comes from a Russian fort made famous in the Crimean War. Coal mining became an important industry in the 1920s, and the "Malakoff Man", a large prehistoric carved stone head found nearby in the 1930s, put the town on the map for archaeologists. State Highway 31 runs through the center of town, 9 miles from Athens and 27 miles from Corsicana. Highway 198 leads north along the lake to Mabank.
